lively discussions of the writings of Chesterton and other related
thinkers. We meet one Saturday each month at 7pm (as we are still a
small group, our dates are flexible, so it is best to call or email to
find out exactly when the next meeting will occur). Likewise, we meet
in the home of Tom Ridenour (founding member) which lends an air of
Chestertonian comfort and conviviality to our discussions - we are
determined to keep in mind Chesterton's remark about beer and
burgundy!

Nevada Chesterton Society

We will have our first meeting Wednesday June 7th at 6:00 in the café in Borders Book Store at 4995 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89502. If you require directions please go to http://www.mapquest.com/ You can get maps and driving directions from this site. This time and location may not work for all of you, but this will not be our permanent meeting place or time but we will discuss more permanent accommodations at this meeting. For those of you that can't make it please send an email with your suggestion for locations and times. After we set a permanent time and location we will generally meet there at the same time once a month.

In addition to our monthly meetings we have also created a Nevada Chesterton Society blog where you will see this letter and may post comments. The blog is located at:

http://nvchesterton.blogspot.com/

I encourage you to read the selections and post comments on them very liberally as it will make our actual meeting all the more fruitful.

A word on how discussion should be conducted: It should be empathetic, candid and generous. As Dale says "Attack ideas, not people." or as Chesterton says "Never allow a quarrel to interrupt a good argument"

We are sure the Nevada Chesterton Society will become a grace to its members and an acclaimed fixture in Nevada.

The Chesterton Society

Who would dare call themselves just the Chesterton Society? Well, The Chesterton Society. And they are entitled. They have the advantage of both seniority and location. They were founded in 1974, on the centenary of Chesterton's birth, and they are located in England. In addition to their semi-regular meetings, they publish the excellent GK Chesterton Quarterly, host an annual lecture in England, and they sell a great GKC t-shirt.
